- Bradbury chooses to title the chapter "the Hearth and the Salamander" was a reference to Guy Montag who is capable of starting fires.
- Guy Montag was shown in the story as "it was a pleasure to burn" which to me means that he likes to destroy things, he likes to hurt people and maybe it's because that's what he's knows his whole life.
- Bradbury uses metaphors since the beginning of the story. He characterizes a fire hose as a "great python" to realize that its not a good thing it can hurt you.
- The 451 symbolizes the blazing and burning and charcoal ruins of history.
- Clarisse had dark and shining and alive eyes that made Montag feel something quite wonderful.

- Clarisse questions him by asking about his love life with his wife and he tells her everything.
